BOISE -- Among the many large, family events in Emmett, the annual Cherry Festival stands out.

Now in it's 78th year, the free event continues to draw people from around Idaho (and beyond) to taste the delicious cherries that grow abundantly on the slope that overlooks the town. This year, if the cherries ripen on schedule, the orchards will be open for guests to pick their own fruit in June, and perhaps even have a picnic with family and friends under the cherry trees.

During the Cherry Festival folks also have the option to attend the annual Cherry Pit Spit Contest and the Cherry Pie Eating Contest, also in Emmett.

The festival is capped-off with the entertainment and hometown pride of the Cherry Festival Parade on Saturday evening.

For more information, visit the festival's website.
