BOISE COUNTY -- The stretch of Highway 21 dubbed Avalanche Alley between Grandjean Junction and Banner Summit closed at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Heavy snowfall, strong winds and snowpack instabilitys are the reasons the Idaho Transportation Department closed the road as a precaution.

This is the second time this winter Avalanche Alley will have closed. According to ITD, this area is home to about 60 avalanche chutes and is where about 90 percent of avalanches that affect state highways occur.
