CASCADE - Two people died in a crash on Highway 55 in Valley County.

The two-car wreck happened 11 miles south of Cascade just before 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The Valley County Sheriff's Office says 21-year-old Michelle Lopez and 4-year-old Nathaniel Ortiz were killed. Five-year-old Raphael Duran is still in the hospital with critical injuries and 25-year-old Juan Ortiz is hospitalized with serious injuries. The are all from Nampa.

The sheriff's office says Raphael Duran is the son of Michelle Lopez. Nathaniel Ortiz is the son of Juan Ortiz. Lopez and Ortiz were reportedly dating at the time of the crash and had spent the weekend with the children in McCall and were heading home.

A couple from Bend, Oregon, was in the Honda Accord. They were taken to a hospital in Cascade and treated and released.

Lt. Dan Smith with the Valley County Sheriff's Office says speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. He says the male driver of a Toyota Corolla was southbound on Highway 55 at milepost 100.6 and went into a curve going too fast. He lost control and slid in the path of an oncoming Honda Accord. The Honda struck the Toyota on the passenger side of the car.

Detectives want to speak with anyone who may have seen the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the Valley County Sheriff's Office.

The road was blocked for more than two hours while emergency crews responded.
