GEM COUNTY -- The Emmett Cherry Festival is coming up in June and this year the cherries will be ready for the occasion, despite struggles last season.

They are looking good, said owner of Cherrystone Orchard Al Dimmick. Good foliage.

Dimmick walked through is orchards with KTVB Friday, and said the cherries are almost ready for the festival.

We had beautiful weather (and) during pollination the bees found what was alive, he said.

They are getting close to being ready, said Dimmick.

The cherries continue to ripen in temperatures over 50 degrees according to Dimmick. In a few more weeks and the cherries will be ready for the 80th Annual Emmett Cherry Festival.

Mother Nature is doing what she can for us, laughed Dimmick.

Dimmick said cherry growers around the valley don t like to talk too much about the weather, because a year ago the crops didn t produce, at all.

Last year was zero the whole valley was frozen out, said Dimmick. And we all took the same hit it got cold during blossom and it nailed everything.

However this year, things are looking up.

So we have cherries and they are pick-able and Mother Nature will be nice to us the next three weeks and we will all have fun.

The Emmett Cherry Festival starts June 11 and goes until the 14.
