BOISE -- The section of Idaho 21, closed for more than a week after a massive avalanche covered the road with snow and debris, has reopened, the Idaho Transportation Department announced Sunday.

The slide, between Stanley and Lowman, occurred March 6 and buried a quarter-mile section of road under up to 50 feet of snow, trees, and rocks.

ITD surveyors assessed the area early last week and crews began working to clear the road late in the week.

Crews used a variety of heavy machinery to clear the slide, including rotary plows, bulldozers, excavators, and loaders.
