BOISE -- Idaho Gov. Butch Otter is preparing for a 10-day trip to Russia, and he's taking more than a dozen business leaders with him.

It's a trade mission focused on bringing more exports to Idaho.

WHO WAS CHOSEN

Any business in Idaho could apply for a spot on the trip.

Then, the Governor's Office selected certain companies for the chance to spread their business from Idaho all the way to Russia.

Here are the companies participating in the trade mission:

  • Agri Beef Co.
  • B & H Farming
  • Davis Cattle Company
  • Dynamite Marketing
  • George F. Brocke & Sons, Inc.
  • Idaho Timber, LLC
  • Industrial Ventilation, Inc.
  • ISRCapital
  • KCK Leadore Angus
  • Logan Farm Equipment
  • Milestone
  • NEU Seed Coop, Inc.
  • NextScan, Inc.
  • Tim Shaw Herefords, Inc.
  • University of Idaho CALS
  • Zions Bank
  • (one company chose not to be recognized)

ONE COMPANY'S STORY

NextScan employs 16 people and is based in Meridian.

Ernesto Pinal is the vice-president and says their business has grown substantially since they started 11 years ago.

NextScan converts analog data to the digital form.

They take micro films, micro fiche, and 35 MM film, enhance the image, and transfer it to a digital version.

Pinal says he was overwhelmed to learn he has been picked to spread his business alongside the governor in Russia.

It was very exciting, I couldn't believe it, I thought that I was dreaming or something, said Pinal.

Nextscan has a specific goal in mind, since they already do business in 39 countries and every continent.

We hope to hopefully double our business in Russia with this trade mission, said Pinal.

THE GOVERNOR'S MISSION

The trip is to boost exporting business across the Gem State.

Otter says it is what's needed in Idaho.

Every billion dollars worth of exports represents a lot of business in Idaho, and we are competing with the rest of the world, and I think we're doing a good job, said Otter.

Pinal says each company is responsible for paying for the trip.

Some businesses are taking more than one person, a total of 46 people will be participating.

The group will be in Moscow for the first part of the week, then they'll travel to St. Petersburg.
