MERIDIAN -- Firefighters in Meridian marked the anniversary of the September 11th attacks by having a moment of silence, and also ringing a bell five times at the Meridian Fire Station.

The bell ringing is traditionally a sign of honor and respect for all firefighters who've made the ultimate sacrifice.

Meridian Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer told KTVB it's important to remember the first responders who risked everything in the face of unknown danger.

We can only imagine as those crews that responded that day in New York, and to the other tragedies on 9/11 looked out that front windshield and saw what they saw, knowing what they were going to and fear was overcome by courage, said Niemeyer.
