SEATTLE -- The Drug Enforcement Administration says nearly 17 tons of expired or unwanted prescription drugs were collected on last Saturday's national Drug Take-Back Day in Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alaska.

The Seattle regional office says that's 2 tons more than the previous take-back event last September in the region.

State-by-state totals for safe disposal of old drugs:

  • Idaho 2.1 tons
  • Washington 7.4 tons
  • Oregon 5.2 tons
  • Alaska 1.9 tons

The DEA says 371 tons were collected nationally.
