GARDENCITY-- Public health providers simulated an emergency medication distribution scenario Wednesday at Expo Idaho.
They practiced an order of medication from the Strategic National Stockpile, and the moving of people through a mass medication center.
The prompting to do this drill comes after the recent news of letters laced with poison, addressed to politicians. The ricin letters also bring up memories of the anthrax scare in 2001.
And so what people are doing, we have volunteers coming through here and they are playing different roles. They come in, they fill out the forms, they go throughout the process, they get their medication, they go out the back door and they come in and they do it again, said Dave Fotsch from Central District Health Department.
Fotsch also says drills like this one are required in order for local agencies to receive funding from the CDC.
To that end, observers checked what went right and what didn't go so well in Wednesday's exercise.
