BOISE -- The latest annual health ranking names Madison County as Idaho's healthiest.

The annual report is researched and published by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Madison County boasts 37,500 residents, with more than 25,000 of those individuals living in the city of Rexburg.

The rankings are based on several factors, including mortality, morbidity, health behaviors, clinical care, children in poverty and clean air and water.

Other counties with high ratings include Valley, Franklin, Latah, Blaine, Jefferson and Ada, the state's most populated county.

So what are the other factors behind the healthy populace in Madison County? The report shows only 3 percent of residents smoke. The county's rate for excessive drinking is also at 3 percent.
