BOISE -- Executives with a Boise-based company say they have developed a new type of ammunition intended to help law enforcement but not injure innocent bystanders.

Integrity Ballistics LLC is hoping to begin marketing the new product in January.

The new model of ammunition is designed to be fired from a 12-gauge shotgun. The shell fires a synthetic ball that flattens on impact and stuns and bruises its human target.

Company executives Joe Kolnik and Jim Greer told the Idaho Business Review they started talking about their new product after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Specifically, they wanted a product that could be used by air marshals aboard planes. Their say their ammo round lacks the force to cause fatal injuries to bystanders but is strong enough to subdue a potential hijacker.
