SANDPOINT, Idaho -- A northern Idaho woman has been fined $400 and placed on probation for two years for failing to report an escape from a wolf sanctuary last year.

The Bonner County Daily Bee reports Nancy Jean Taylor pleaded guilty last month to a misdemeanor for failing to report that a 14-year-old captive wolf named Cryco had escaped from the Wolf People facility last summer.

Cryco remains unaccounted for, although Taylor believes the wolf is dead because it was raised in captivity and had kidney failure.

In a message on her website, Taylor said she did not report the wolf missing because she believed she could find it and was concerned Idaho wildlife officials would issue a shoot-to-kill order.

Judge Don L. Swanstrom sentenced Taylor on July 27.
