CALDWELL -- Prosecutors say a former Canyon County employee who sent sexually explicit text messages to a 16-year-old girl must serve 30 days in jail.

Jason Cooperdock, 37, pleaded guilty earlier this year to one felony count of sexual battery of a minor after arranging to meet the teen for a sexual encounter. The girl is the daughter of a friend.

Cooperdock was fired from his job in the Canyon County Assessor s Office last November.

Canyon County Prosecutor Bryan Taylor says Cooperdock says the judge suspended a nine-year sentence and opted for one month in jail, to be followed by nine years of probation.

Cooperdock must also register as a sex offender, have no contact with the victim and is not permitted to have any unsupervised visits with minors.

Taylor says the girl s parents were instrumental in helping police catch Cooperdock by monitoring her cell phone usage.
