BOISE -- Saturdaywas a beautiful dayfor flying, especially for 50 women and girls who have never experienced flight before.

The women had the opportunity to fly for freeas part of an effort to Fly it Forward.

Fly it Forward is the Women of Aviation International's annual celebration of women's history of flight.

The Ponderosa Aero Club is the first and only Idaho aviation organization to participate in Fly it Forward.

Give them an opportunity that most people don't get to do, saidSharki Kontra, theevent organizer and a pilot herself. There's very few females that get up in the air, except in an airliner, so this is kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity for these women.

Those who participated, along with their families, also had the chance to learn a little more about flying and tour different parts of Gowen Field.
