CANYONCOUNTY -- A man was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after crashing his pickup on I-84 Thursday.

Idaho State Police says 65-year-old Geoffrey Harvey of Haven was headed westbound near the Sand Hollow Exit at mile marker 16 when he fell asleep at the wheel and hit the median. The pickup then went into an embankment and landed below the interstate on a country road.

ISP says Harvey was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Troopers are still investigating the crash.

Meanwhile, Caldwell firefighters were called in to help put out a fire that started at the scene of the wreck.

Crews worked to extinguish the flames in and around the pickup. They told us the small grass fire off I-84 was put out quickly.

While firefighters and troopers were working at the scene, a car headed eastbound on I-84 lost a tire and it went flying across lanes of traffic.

Fortunately, firefighters say no one was hurt in that crash.
