BOISE - Police are searching for a man they say tried to snatch a woman's purse from her car Monday morning.

The woman said she was sitting in her car parked at South Newport and West Marvin Street, just north of Overland Road, when a man approached her just before 9 a.m. The suspect came up to her passenger window, which was rolled down, and asked her for change, she told police.

When she told him she didn't have any, the man reached into her car and tried to grab her purse, she said. The woman was able to grab her purse and retrieve a canister of pepper spray from inside it.
Police say after the woman sprayed it at him, the man took off running eastbound down Marvin Street.

The man is described as a light-skinned man in his 30's with facial hair. He is about 6'2, and was wearing a black hoodie with a black T-shirt underneath. Officers are still combing the area for the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to call dispatch at 377-6790.
