BOISE -- A 25-year-old Boise man is charged with cruelty to animals and trafficking heroin after he was spotted attacking squirrels Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to an area near North 23rd and West Bannock streets after a caller reported seeing a man chasing and hitting squirrels with a stick.

Police arrived on scene and found Aaron Lehotsky uncooperative.

After some investigation, Lehotsky was arrested for resisting and obstructing police and for misdemeanor cruelty to animals.

After his arrest, a search found Lehotsky to be in possession of two grams of heroin, a felony.

He was booked into the Ada County Jail.
