MERIDIAN - A fire that began in a Meridian garage has been extinguished - but not before it spread to a home, firefighters say.

The blaze began in a car inside the garage just before 7 a.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of 13th Street.

A woman was sleeping inside the house when the fire started, but was woken up by the fire alarm and escaped without injury. Another person lives in the house, but was at work when it caught fire.

Firefighters say 30 percent of the house was damaged and the garage was a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation
