BOISE -- A male inmate at the Ada County Jail has died from what appears to be a drug overdose, according to the Ada County Sheriff s Office.

At 5:40 p.m. Monday a jail deputy received an anonymous note saying that an inmate had drugs in his possession. A K9 was brought in and searched the inmate s cell, but did not find any drugs.

Around 1:30 a.m. the deputy monitoring 29-year-old Danny Ryan of Twin Falls noticed he was sweating, shaking and showing signs of a person who had taken large amounts of meth.

Ryan refused to cooperate with medical staff and also refused to be taken to the hospital for treatment. His temperature spiked and just before 2:30 a.m. nurses called 911. He was then taken by ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

Ryan lost consciousness and went into cardiac arrest at the hospital. He was pronounced dead at 4:02 a.m. Tuesday.

An autopsy performed by the Ada County coroner found a foreign substance in his stomach. Additional toxicology tests will be performed to determine what the substance was.

Ryan tested positive for marijuana and amphetamines.

He had been at the Ada County Jail since March 7 and was in custody on a federal hold.

The sheriff s office and U.S. Marshal s Service are investigating what Ryan was doing in the days and hours leading up to his death.
