TWIN FALLS -- A former Twin Falls County deputy coroner has been sentenced to at least a year in prison for defrauding Medicaid by filing false claims for driving Medicaid patients to medical appointments.

Shaiyenne Anton entered an Alford plea in December to grand theft and fraudulently claiming public assistance services. Under such a plea, she does not admit guilt but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to gain a conviction.

District Judge Richard Bevan sentenced her Tuesday to one to 10 years in prison and ordered her to pay more than $47,500 in restitution.

Investigators with the state Medicaid Fraud Control Unit began investigating Anton in March 2010, because she applied for the most reimbursement in Idaho in 2009. Investigators say her mileage claims did not match up with medical claims.
