BOISE -- The family of a Kuna High football player, hospitalized with a serious infection, said he is improving.

Kuna High School junior Elijah Minnick fell ill with a strep infection on New Year's Eve, and has been recovering at St. Luke's.

His family declined to talk specifically about his condition, but said he is getting better. They also sent KTVB this statement:

Our family is humbled by the outpouring of love and support from not only our close family and friends, but also from the community. Elijah is continuing to fight. We are so grateful for all the doctors and staff in the PICU at St. Luke's, they are our heroes. Elijah continues to improve a little bit every day and has a long road ahead. Thank you so much.
