BOISE -- The inaugural Mountain West Conference Football Championship Game will have the stage all to itself this December.
The conference announced that CBS Sports signed a multi-year deal to broadcast the MW Football Conference Championship on Monday. The first-ever title match-up with air live on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. MT. It will immediately follow the SEC Championship Game on CBS and serve as the last college football game in 2013 prior to bowl season.
The new Mountain West football structure, which will culminate in an exciting match-up between two division champions, is one of many recent initiatives for the Conference as we enter our next era, said MW commissioner Craig Thompson. We are pleased that CBS Sports will serve as a tremendous platform for this marquee event, providing an opportunity to showcase the caliber of Mountain West football.
We're thrilled to extend our relationship with the Mountain West and broadcast their inaugural football championship game, said Dan Weinberg, the senior vice president of programming at CBS. It's a great addition to our college football programming and we look forward to providing fans with a full day of Championship coverage for many years.
Twenty-three MW football games are scheduled to air on the CBS Sports Network this season. One regular-season contest (Air Force vs. Navy) will be broadcast on CBS Sports in addition to the championship game.
Both Boise State and Fresno State were picked to win their respective divisions by the media at the Mountain West Media Days in July. The division champion with the highest BCS ranking at the end of the regular-season will serve as the host school for the game.
