CALDWELL -- A Nampa man charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon following a shooting that killed a man and injured a woman failed to show up at a plea hearing.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports that 25-year-old David Salas didn't appear Wednesday at a scheduled change-of-plea hearing.

Defense attorney Ryan Henson and deputy prosecuting attorney Ted Fleming told 3rd District Judge Molly J. Huskey they didn't know Salas' location.

Huskey decided to reschedule the hearing for May 31 rather than order a warrant for Salas' arrest.

Police say the shooting occurred in August 2012 in a garage in Caldwell and that the bullet passed through a man who later died. The bullet then went through a wall and hit a sleeping woman in the arm.

Salas says the shooting was an accident.
