BOISE -- The Boise City Council is considering three ordinances to curb unsafe panhandling, harassing, lying on sidewalks, or other issues affecting public spaces.

The ordinances were made after local business owners and residents reported an increased amount of panhandling over the past few years.

The Aggressive Solicitation Ordinance and Civil Sidewalks Ordinance focuses on sitting and soliciting on public property, while the Public Placement Ordinance would require people to have permits for putting up tents, chairs, or tables on public property.

And violators of that new ordinance would be charged with a misdemeanor.

The council will review the proposed ordinances at a work session on Tuesday, May 21 at 4 p.m.

If approved, the ordinances would go into effect in July.
