ORANGECOUNTY-- Titus Young's father told the Detroit Free Press that he believes the former BSUand Detroit Lions wide receiver is suffering through some sort of mental illness that he needs help for.

I hope they just forgive Titus because this ain t none of Titus, it wasn t none of his fault, Richard Young told reporters at the Detroit Free Press. I look at my son right now, I don t see my son. That s not my son. I know my son.

Speaking to reporters over the phone, Richard Young told the news agency that he'd lately noticed a disturbing change in Young, and it seemed to develop after his rookie year with the Lions in 2011.

According to the Free Press:

While Young had been undergoing periodic counseling and, according to his father, was prescribed the antipsychotic drug Seroquel, Richard Young who said he thinks Titus problems stem from a concussion said Titus wasn t taking his medicine regularly.

The interview comes on the heels of a bizarre week in which Titus Young was arrested and jailed three times. The mayhem started on Sunday, May 5th when the 23-year-old was arrested for alleged DUI. He was booked again 15 hours later after police say he tried to scale a fence at an impound lot to reach his black Ford Mustang, which had been towed by authorities.

Young was arrested a third time that week on Friday, May 10. This time the former NFLplayer was accused of breaking into a home, then fighting with a police officer that was called to the situation by the homeowner.

When asked for some sort of explanation, Young's father told reporters that his son's behavior had been erratic, and that he seemed to have reached a breaking point in the months and weeks before the arrests happened.

According to the Free Press, Young's father explained one of Titus' breakdowns:

He said, I don t feel good. He just started crying, Richard Young said. He said, I just don t feel good. I m not myself, I don t feel good, Dad. I don t know what s happening to me.
