BOISE -- A number of major construction projects on Interstate 84 are set to start early next year.

Plans are underway to replace three interchanges at Meridian Road, Broadway Avenue, and Gowen Road. Also, a third lane will be added on I-84 between Broadway and Gowen.

The Idaho Transportation Department will replace the Broadway and Meridian interchanges with what's called a single-point urban interchange, much like the one constructed on Vista Road last year.

A new diamond interchange will replace the current interchange at Gowen Road.

Longer wider ramps will be built at all three interchanges to allow more room to merge, and bicycle lanes will be added as well.

ITD says the projects will reduce congestion and improve safety.

The projects are being funded through the GARVEE program.

Construction is slated to complete by the fall of 2015.
