BOISE -- Former Boise State football coach Dan Hawkins is making a return to the gridiron, and this time he is heading north of the border.

Souces have confirmed he has accepted the head coaching job of the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

For the past two years Hawkins has been a commentator for ESPN after being fired as the head football coach at the University at Colorado. He coached in Boulder from 2006-2010.

Prior to that, Hawkins coached for eight years at Boise State, including the last five season as the Broncos' head coach.

Hawkins will be coaching several former Broncos that play for Montreal. They are Jeremy Avery, Winston Venable and Andrew Woodruff.
