MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Latah County Sheriff s Office trying to figure out who left a pipe bomb on a rural road near Moscow, Idaho.
Investigators say a man spotted the device sitting on the side of Paradise Road, and then put it in his car and drove it about four miles to the Sheriff s Office. He reportedly said he did not want any children to find the pipe bomb and get hurt.
All non-essential personnel from the Sheriff s Office were evacuated while authorities waited for the Spokane Bomb Squad to arrive and dismantle the explosive. Area streets were also sealed off.
Detectives said the pipe bomb was 6 inches long, 1 inch in diameter, and wrapped in electrical tape with a fuse on one end. It was filled with gunpowder.
The device was destroyed around 9:00 p.m. No one was hurt.
It is surprising that someone would manufacture such a device and discard it where other people can find it. We're just lucky responsible citizen found it, said Lt. Brannon Jordan
Authorities said they would discourage anyone from touching any kind of explosive. They recommend leaving the area and calling 911 to report the location.
