BOISE -- Idaho's tax revenue came up a bit short of expectations in August.

Over the previous month, the state Division of Financial Management says Idaho's revenue was $197.6 million, or about 1.1 percent below forecasts.

The figure is still about 3.7 percent higher than the same period a year ago, a sign that the state's economy is improving, if slowly.

For the first two months of the fiscal year 2013, Idaho has taken in just over $420 million.

That's about 1.3 percent below expectations, but there's still 10 months in the year to go for Idaho to make up the revenue.

One bright side: Sales taxes came in at 2.5 percent above forecasts for August and more than 15 percent above what they were in August 2011.
