BOISE -- A brush fire that broke out in south Boise Saturday night caused some anxious moments for homeowners as it raced quickly across dry grass.

Ada County dispatch says they received a call at 6:25 p.m. of a brush fire near the 9000 block of W. Fox Ridge Drive in Boise. That's near Columbia and S. Five Mile roads. Fortunately, homes in that area back up to New York Canal. The canal served as a fire line and helped firefighters get the fire under control.

Officials say the fire blackened an estimated 30 to 40 acres.

Fire crews from Boise, Kuna and Meridian responded. No one was hurt.

By 8 p.m. the fire had been extinguished. However, crews were still on scene mopping up hot spots to ensure the fire does not start up again.

The cause is under investigation.
