KETCHUM -- Hundreds of expert mountain bikers have gathered at Sun Valley Resort for the USA Cycling Cross Country Mountain Biking National Championships. The event's races are scheduled from July 5th through the 8th.
Former Idahoan and 2012 Olympic contender Georgia Gould will be among them.
Organizers say the 2011 nationals attracted more than 1,000 riders -- the first year it was held in Ketchum.
Among those entering the professional race are the four riders named to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Mountain Bike Team: Lea Davison (Jericho, Vt./Specialized Racing), Georgia Gould (Formerly of Sun Valley -- now of Fort Collins, Colo./Luna Pro Team), Sam Schultz (Missoula, Mont./Subaru-Trek) and Todd Wells (Durango, Colo./Specialized Racing).
Thursday's action will feature cross-country and short track cross-country racers. The races begin at 8 a.m. and go until 3:45 on Thursday afternoon.
Friday's races feature junior riders along with the U23 men and women. All races are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and go until 4:30 p.m.
Races on Saturday and Sunday feature pro riders, and are spread throughout each day. For a full schedule, click here.
