NAMPA -- A 60-foot tall Colorado spruce tree will be the official Christmas tree for the city of Nampa.
The 13,000-pound tree was donated by Charles and Sandy Schell who live at 312 Sunrise Rim Road in Nampa.
The couple said it was bittersweet to see the tree cut down Monday, but they are happy about where it is going.
Because we've enjoyed it for 42 years, we think it would be nice for the city of Nampa to have it for the holidays, said Charles Schell.
The couple planted the tree near their home just two years after moving in -- 44 years ago.
The tree was loaded by crane onto a large truck. It is being taken to the fountain area on 12th Ave. South near the Nampa Police station.
The tree lighting ceremony is planned for Monday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
