TWIN FALLS -- The man who police say was responsible for a chase, shootout, and hostage situation last Friday in Twin Falls, was arraigned Monday in a Twin Falls County courtroom. According to court documents, Clark Cleveland claims he doesn't remember the incident.

Cleveland said only yes and no during his arraignment on charges of eluding a peace officer and aggravated battery on a police officer, with a possible enhanced penalty for using a gun.

On Friday, Idaho State Police say they tried to pull over the 26-year-old from Nevada for speeding. But they said Cleveland drove off at more than 100 miles per hour.

After a high-speed chase, the truck he was driving crashed at the intersection of Poleline and Fillmore. According to police, Cleveland fled on foot with his passenger, now identified as Kyle Moon.

In a search of the truck, police say they found a shotgun and a drug pipe. Officers detained Moon, and an ISP trooper we now know is Nicholas Walker, ran after Cleveland into a nearby hotel. Police say Cleveland fired several shots from a handgun and hit Walker once in the leg. Trooper Walker continues to recover from his gunshot wound.

Police say Tracy Ivie, who was staying at the hotel, was shot and killed. Twin Falls County Prosecutor Grant Loebs hasn't said that Cleveland was the shooter or charged him with murder. He did say that no officers fired a shot during the altercation.

After taking a hostage, Cleveland eventually surrendered to police, releasing his female hostage unharmed.

While being interviewed by investigators, Cleveland claimed he didn't remember what happened and declined to speak any more with detectives.

As proceedings ended Monday, bond for Cleveland was kept at $2 million, and at $500,000 for violating the probation for a DUI conviction he was sentenced for just two weeks ago in Twin Falls.

The next court date for Cleveland is a preliminary hearing on July 29.
