BOISE -- Boise State University will make a major announcement regarding Bronco Stadium during a press conference Wednesday.

A source tells KTVB that Boise-based Albertsons will be the first-ever corporate naming partner for the home of the blue turf.

Constructed back in 1970, Bronco Stadium had an initial capacity of 14,500 people.

Since then the color of the field has changed from green to blue, the university has gone from junior college ball to the NCAA, and following multiple expansion projects, the facility now holds almost 37,000 fans.

Through it all, there has really only been one constant: The name, Bronco Stadium. That could soon change though with today's announcement.

Albertsons is on a growth spurt, after taking over hundreds of stores from Minnesota-based Supervalu in 2013, and with a proposed merger with Safeway expected to close later this year. The acquisitions have added to the workforce in Boise, where the grocer was founded by Joe Albertson in 1939. Albertsons is privately owned by a consortium of private equity firms, led by Cerberus Capital Management.

That news conference will start at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. We will stream it live on KTVB.COM.
