NAMPA -- Police are investigating a crash that left a pedestrian dead Sunday night.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m. at the intersection of West Orchard Avenue and North Horton Street.

Nampa Police Sergeant Tim Randall says a 37-year-old man was crossing near the intersection when he was struck by a passenger van driving east.

Police say the man, who lived in the area where the crash occurred, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Canyon County Coroner Vicki DeGeus-Morris has identified the victim as Ryan John Chadez. He died from blunt force trauma. She says Chadez lived at a local shelter.

The driver was given a field sobriety test, but officers say they do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

There are crosswalks at that intersection, but no stop signs for traffic driving on Orchard.
