BOISE -- Hundreds of kids from the Boise and Meridian school districts gathered on the Statehouse steps Friday to commit to be drug free and kick off Red Ribbon Week.

For about an hour the students heard from their peers talking about why it is important to avoid substance abuse of any kind.

Former federal prosecutor Monte Stiles shared a positive message about avoiding drugs.

It's all about making good choices and being responsible for your choices, said Stiles. It's about great kids making good decisions and having good parents to teach them and set the example for them.

Our Scott Evans emceed the event, which is now in its 25th year.

Red Ribbon Week is next week.
