BOISE-- Summer weather in Idaho can be unforgiving and unpredictable. Hundred-degree temps often stretch for days, followed by surprise thunderstorms, lightning, and wildfires.

That's exactly the type of weather southwest Idaho has faced for the last week. The resulting fires are now burning close to 300,000 acres.

They include:

  • The Elk Complex Fire -- 98,413 acres
  • The Pony Complex Fire -- 143,900 acres
  • McCan Fire -- 23,860 acres
  • Beaver Creek Fire -- 32,211

Lightning, fire, and smoke -- it's a chain reaction.

Here's a sampling a viewer photos taken from the past three days that document this natural phenomenon.
