IDAHOCOUNTY -- A Meridian man died on Monday after he crashed his pickup on U.S.Highway 95 south of White Bird, according to Idaho State Police.

Officers say 68-year-old Richard Barnes drove his pickup off the road after trying to pass a semitrailer. According to reports, Barnes was towing a camp trailer while he tried to pass the semi, but came back into the lane too soon and was hit by the driver of the truck.

Police say his pick-up went off the road, down an embankment, and came to rest on its top.

Barnes died at the scene.

Police say wife, Prudence Barnes, was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Lewiston.

The semi driver was not hurt.
