BOISE -- Former state lawmaker and tax protester Phil Hart is denying allegations he hid assets and income that were made recently in his federal bankruptcy case.

Last month, two federal attorneys filed affidavits in the case accusing Hart of lying under oath, destroying records and hiding income and assets.

In a statement filed recently with the court, Hart says none of those allegations are true. The Spokesman-Review also reports that Hart has filed objections to the amount the Internal Revenue Service claims he owes in unpaid taxes and penalties.

Hart served five terms in the Idaho House before losing in the Republican primary last year. He stopped filing income tax returns in 1996 in his pursuit of a federal lawsuit challenging the legality of the federal income tax.
