BOISE -- While many school districts in the area are making cuts, teachers in the Boise School District will be getting raises.

District spokesman Dan Hollar says all 1,590 Boise school teachers will get at least a one percent raise for this upcoming school year.

Boise teachers will have more work to do as they implement the common core standards and work two more days.

Hollar says the district has the money thanks to cuts made throughout the economic downturn and rising property taxes.

The raises were part of a deal approved by a vote of 92 percent of Boise teachers.

People understand the sacrifices that have been made over the last four years, the cuts that have been made, not only in the district here, but around the state, said Hollar. They know what other districts are facing.

This is the first raise for Boise teachers in four years.
