BOISE -- Police say an apartment fire caused by a warming lamp tipped off authorities to a stash of pot and illegal psilocybin mushrooms on Saturday.

Both John D. Giesler, 21, of Meridian, and Elizabeth B. Rayner, 21, of Boise are charged with felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Officers got a warrant to search the apartment on SouthAmy Avenue after firefighters were called to extinguish a fire in a bedroom closet, and then discovered the drugs in question.

Firefighters say the flames appear to have been caused by a lamp used to keep a snake warm in its cage. They say once the fire was extinguished, police were notified.

According to reports, officers then seized about three-quarters of a pound of marijuana in several containers from the apartment. They also reported finding a container of psilocybin mushrooms and other drug paraphernalia.

A third resident of the apartment was charged with misdemeanor possession of dug paraphernalia.

According to Idaho State Code, possession of more than 3 ounces of marijuana is a felony, carrying a punishment of up to five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.

Unfortunately, the snake died.
