BOISE -- The speed limit on a four-mile stretch of the I-184 Connector will be raised from 55 mph to 60 mph, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.

ITD spokesman Reed Hollinshead says the new, higher speed limit will go into effect after a resurfacing project on the Connector is complete in mid-September.

Local law enforcement agencies were briefed on the changes in June and are in support of the new speed limit.

The section of the Connector that will be 60 mph is from the Flying Wye to River Street.

Transportation officials say the Connector averages about 57,000 vehicles per day.

Traffic engineers say about 85 percent of drivers on that stretch of highway are already going 60 mph, so this is a reasonable and safe speed which should produce fewer crashes.
