CALDWELL -- Crews from across Canyon County responded to a house fire in Caldwell Saturday afternoon that destroyed a family home.

Fire officials say the fire started in the garage but quickly spread to the rest of the home, destroying the house and two cars parked inside the garage.

Neighbor Ken McAllister was driving by the home when he noticed smoke coming from the garage. McAllister says that's when he went into the home to make sure everyone got out safely. Once inside he found the homeowner's daughter sleeping. He woke her up and got her out safely.

Moments after we got out, the garage was gone, he said. The gas tanks started exploding.

Battalion Chief Tim Scott with the Caldwell Fire Department says a sprinkler system would have likely saved the home saying, we had 40 foot flames. It was visible from all over the valley. It was big.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
