BURLEY, Idaho -- A truck driver was killed early Friday morning after driving a semi off the highway and into a concrete pillar that holds up the 850 West Overpass.

Fifty-year-old Harold Gow of Missoula, Mont., was heading west on Interstate 84 at about 5 a.m. when the crash happened near milemarker 205, according to Idaho State Police.

Gow veered off the road, hitting a guard rail before plowing into the pillar supporting the 850 West Overpass. He died at the scene.

One lane of westbound I-84 is shut down, earlier both lanes of the freeway were closed while repairs were made.

850 West Road will be closed indefinitely, police say. The same overpass was hit three years ago, closing the road for about a year for repairs.

Idaho State Police say only the semi was involved in the crash, and no one else was injured.

Police are still investigating the crash. It's not clear what caused the driver to veer off the interstate.
