MERIDIAN -- A Nampa woman took a big plunge today. Sheila Iverson was the first guest to ride the new Corkscrew Cavern at Roaring Springs Waterpark in Meridian.

Sheila was the winner of the waterpark's name the ride contest, and she and her family got to be the first ones to try it out Thursday.

Roaring Springs is scheduled to open for the season this Saturday, May 17th. Weather permitting, the waterpark will be open Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The waterpark opens seven days a week starting May 24th.

The Corkscrew Cavern is the first 360-degree looping waterslide in the Northwest. Riders step into a launching capsule then wait for the trap-door-in-the-floor to drop. After a free fall they ll go for a spin with G-forces gluing them to the slide all the way around the loop.
