BOISE -- A top election official in Ada County has decided to begin raising money and explore more seriously his chances of winning the Republican nomination for Secretary of State.
Thirty-two-year-old Phil McGrane filed official paperwork this week allowing him begin campaign fundraising. McGrane is the chief deputy county clerk in Ada County and the third candidate to show interest in a job being vacated by incumbent Ben Ysursa.
Last month, former House Speaker Lawerence Denney launched his campaign for the GOP nomination. Recently, former state Sen. Mitch Toryanski of Boise filed paperwork and appointed a campaign treasurer.
Ysursa announced earlier this month his intention to resign in January 2015 and leave office after three terms.
So far, no Democratic candidates have taken formal steps to enter the race
