COEUR D ALENE, Idaho -- Police said Wednesday they were questioning two 12-year-old boys after a porta potty fire near Hubbard Avenue and Rosenberry Drive.

Witnesses reported seeing two juvenile males set a portable toilet on fire Tuesday. It was completely destroyed by the flames. Investigators also said the fire spread from the porta potty onto the corner of a garage, causing the outside of the structure to blacken and some of the blue plastic material from the porta potty to melt against the siding.

A witness told police he spotted one of the two juveniles laughing and hooting and hollering near the garage where the fire took place.

Three members of a neighborhood watch group also claimed to have confronted two juvenile males near the scene of the fire less than an hour before the report of the arson.

After further investigation Wednesday by patrol officers, firefighters and school resource officers, the two males were identified. Authorities said both boys were 12 years old and were being interviewed about the crime and two other attempted arsons that occurred in the same general area in the same time frame.

In those other fires, some papers were set on fire near a job site and some cigarette butts were set on fire at the same location. No damages resulted from those fires.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday afternoon.
