NEZ PERCE COUNTY, Idaho -- Twenty-eight members of the Nez Perce Tribe are faced with charges of public nuisance infractions.

The charges stemmed from protests in August seeking to stop a megaload from traveling through the reservation. The equipment the tribal members allegedly tried to stop was to be used to treat water at an oil sands project in Canada.

Eight members of the tribe's executive committee are among those facing charges. An arraignment was set for September 20 in Nez Perce Tribal Court.
