BOISE -- For the next year, Idaho Power customers will be paying more, around 12.5 percent more.

The rate increase amounts to about $12 per month, for the average residential customer.

That's about $137 more for the year.

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission approved the one year surcharge to help make up a $140 million shortfall.

Declining water and reduced revenue from surplus energy sales are partly to blame for the shortfall.
