COEUR D'ALENE -- A northern Idaho man has filed a lawsuit against Kootenai County, its sheriff's department and a deputy seeking an unspecified amount in damages for injuries the lawsuit contends happened in a crash involving a law enforcement vehicle.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reports in a story published Saturday that Chan Sahm in the lawsuit says he suffered serious personal injuries in the crash that occurred July 4, 2012.

Sahm says his 2007 Toyota Tundra was struck from behind by a patrol vehicle driven by Deputy Dennis D. Stinebaugh when Sahm slowed for a construction site.

Sahm says his vehicle was struck hard enough that it caused a chain reaction of collisions in front of him.

The sheriff's department declined to comment.
